The infamous Rhubarb Rumble is a recipe/cooking contest that challenges our local restaurants and caterers to prepare their best recipe that utilizes rhubarb as the main ingredient. The contest is judged by the public on the day of the Faire with the winner receiving the honor of hosting the Rhubarb Rumble trophy at their place of business or home for one year until they pass it on to the following year’s winner. The Rhubarb Rumble was created as a means of encouraging the public to support the concept of Alaska Grown and to support Palmer’s local eateries. All of the participants generously donate their time, ingredients and culinary skills to make this event possible and to help serve the greater community. We applaud their efforts and ask our event attendees to show their appreciation by supporting their businesses.
For 2017, in order to showcase the competition in the manner as to which it was initially intended, the Rhubarb Rumble will be moved to Friday, the day prior to the Garden and Art Faire, and will serve as a kick-off to the festivities. This year’s Rumble is also partnering with the Palmer Water and Soil Conservation District’s Local Food in Business Project. During the Rumble, Palmer Water and Soil will be educating the public on the importance of local businesses using locally produced products in their kitchens through what better way than food. They will have a special guest chef preparing a delicious sampling of appetizers that are comprised of solely locally produced foods. It promises to be a yummy afternoon.
The Rhubarb Rumble is a FREE event and will take place on Friday, July 7th, from 4:00 – 6:00PM.
